Today’s Mike Trout home run came very early six years ago, just the second series of the year for the Angels, and their first on the road. On April 4, 2014, the Halos were in Houston to start a weekend series against the Astros.
The Angels routed Houston in this one, 11-1. Trout got things started in the first inning, with a solo home run against Lucas Harrell. Scroll 17 seconds into this video:
Trout has faced three pitchers named Lucas in his career, and has exactly one home run against all of them. Harrell and Lucas Giolito have faced Trout in eight plate appearances, while Lucas Luetge has faced him four times.
Trout’s home run was the 64th of his career, and along with a bases-loaded walk in the second inning gave him 201 runs batted in. In just 340 games, he was the fifth-fastest in Angels history to reach 200 RBI:
- Wally Joyner, 276 games
- Tim Salmon, 309 games
- Mark Trumbo, 327 games
- Jim Edmonds, 330 games
- Trout, 340 games
