Today’s Mike Trout home run was his final blast of 2018, during the season’s final weekend against the A’s in Anaheim.
The Angels were playing out the string, flirting with .500 but long since eliminated. But Trout still finished his season strong, hitting .329/.469/.684 with eight home runs in the final month.
On Friday, September 28, Trout and the Angels were facing Oakland, with Mike Fiers on the mound for the A’s. Trout popped out in his first at-bat but in the third inning, already up 3-0, Trout expanded the lead with a two-run opposite-field shot over the right field scoreboard.
This was the 39th home run of the season for Trout, and 240th of his career. He ended the season third on the Angels all-time home run list, behind only Tim Salmon and Garret Anderson.
It was the second of four career home runs for Trout against Fiers, against whom he is hitting .345/.457/.897 in 35 plate appearances.
Trout was 2-for-3 with a walk in addition to the home run in this 2018 game, and scored twice. The Angels won 8-5.
