10 years ago today, one of the craziest injuries in MLB history took place in Angel Stadium. Kendy Morales broke his leg.... while jumping onto home plate while celebrating after hitting a walk-off grand slam.
In the bottom of the 10th inning, the Angels were tied with the Mariners. They had the bases loaded, and on the first pitch of his at bat, Morales hit one into the fountains. He rounded third, threw his helmet into the ground and jumped towards home plate.
After a few seconds went by, you saw Morales was on the ground and clearly in a lot of pain. Following the game, it was announced he had broken his lower left leg. His season was over.
It was a major blow to the Angels, as Morales was the best hitter on the team through the first 1⁄3 of the season. After finishing fifth in MVPV voting the year prior, he was leading the Angels in batting average (.290), home runs (11), RBIs (39) and total bases. He was the only Angel to play in all 51 games.
Not only did Morales miss the rest of 2010, he missed the 2011 season as well.
