Welcome back to the Mike Trout home run daily, where we review all the home runs in Mike Trout’s career, one game at a time. Today’s random number generator takes us back to his last regular season home run of 2014.
The Angels were in Seattle for the final series of the season, a Friday night against the Mariners. Hisashi Iwakuma started for Seattle, which posed a bit of a problem
Iwakuma has faced Trout 61 times, second only to Felix Hernandez among pitchers. And he’s handled Trout better than nearly everyone, holding him to just .189/.279/.302 with two home runs, the only extra-base hits for Trout against Iwakuma.
One of them came in this game, September 26, 2014. It was the sixth inning, the second of back-to-back shots along with Kole Calhoun. Scroll to 9:40 of this video to see:
Trout was only 4-for-25 (.160) with seven strikeouts against Iwauma before this home run.
This was the 36th and final home run of the regular season for Trout in 2014. He hit .287/.377/.561 with 39 doubles, and led the league in runs scored (115), RBI (111), and total bases (338) to win his first American League MVP award.
