Welcome to the Mike Trout home run daily, where we relive every single home run so far in the Angels superstar’s career, one game at a time. We use a random number generator to pick the game in question each day, but I will admit to cheating a little bit here.
I wrote about a September 2017 home run that was originally going to be for this date, but working ahead a little bit I used the random number generator to pick the next day’s game. It happened to land on May 5, 2013, and since this would be an anniversary I moved it up to today.
This was the final game of a weekend series against the Orioles at home, and the Angels jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the first inning, thanks in part to Trout using his speed. He reached on an infield single, stole second, then scored the Angels’ first run on a single by Alberto Callaspo.
The middle innings were a slugfest, with J.J. Hardy tying things up with a two-run shot in the top of the fourth. Trout answered in the bottom of the inning, against Jason Hammel. Scroll to 1:03 of this video:
It was the fifth home run of the season for Trout, and 40th of his career.
The slugfest continued in the fifth inning when Manny Machado hit a two-run shot to give the Orioles the lead for good.
This was the second Trout home run on Cinco de Mayo, having done the same in 2012. We haven’t yet written about that game, but who knows.
