Welcome to the Mike Trout home run daily, where we review every single home run of the Angels superstar’s career, one game at a time. We use a random number generator to determine which game to pick, and today’s came up on April 12, 2017.

This was very early in the season for the Angels, who were in the middle game of a mid-week series against the Rangers in Anaheim. Jesse Chavez started for the Halos, against A.J. Griffin for Texas.

Trout struck out in his first at-bat, but in the third inning with two outs, he broke a 2-2 tie with a solo shot into the hedges in center field.

Mike Trout has three home runs in 31 career plate appearances against Griffin, with a .760 slugging percentage. In 2017, the last time he faced Griffin, Trout was 3-for-6 against him with two doubles to go with that home run.

The home run was Trout’s only hit this game, his third home run of the year. This was only the ninth game of the season. It was Trout’s 171st career home run. This was the third time in four days we’ve landed on a Trout home run against the Rangers.
