Welcome back to the Mike Trout home run daily, where we remember every single home run hit by Mike Trout, one game at a time. We use a random number generator to determine each game, and we are into our third month of reviews. Trout, it turns out, has hit a lot of home runs.
Today’s home run came on opening day in 2014, with the Angels hosting the Mariners in Anaheim. Felix Hernandez, who has faced Trout more than any other pitcher, and who has allowed more home runs to Trout than any other pitcher started for Seattle.
On Trout’s third pitch faced, in his first at-bat of his third full season, he took Hernandez deep to left field, a two-run shot into the bullpen.
This was the second of eight career home runs for Trout against Hernandez, against whom he is hitting .352/.404/.716 in 99 plate appearances.
It was the 63rd home run of Trout’s career, and his 400th hit.
That 2-0 lead later became 3-1, but the Mariners rallied to take the lead against Jered Weaver in the seventh inning, then broke it open with a six-run ninth, winning 10-3.
