Welcome back to the Mike Trout home run daily, where we relive every single home run of Mike Trout’s career, one game at a time. We use a random number generator to pick each game.

Today’s game was May 7, 2015, the opener of a four-game weekend series against the Astros on a Thursday night in Anaheim. Hector Santiago and Collin McHugh engaged in a pitchers’ duel.

Trout struck early, hitting the second pitch he saw in the first inning over the wall in center field. Scroll to 1:40 of this video to watch:

It followed an odd pattern at home for Trout in 2015. His 41 home runs were as evenly split as possible — 20 at home, 21 on the road. But 16 of his 20 homers hit at Angel Stadium were solo shots.

The home run was Trout’s eighth of the season and 106th of his career. It was his first of three career home runs against McHugh, against whom he is 8-for-24 (.333) with an .875 slugging percentage.

Trout was 1-for-4 in the game. The Angels led 2-0 into the ninth, when Houston rallied for three runs against closer Huston Street for the win.
