Today’s Mike Trout home run is from very early 2019, when the Angels outfielder inflicted particular damage against the Texas Rangers.
On April 5, 2019, the Angels hosted Texas in the second game of a four-game weekend series on a Friday night in Anaheim. You might remember a Trout home run from the first game of this series the night before, that we relived back in April.
Before this Friday game, Trout received his sixth Silver Slugger Award on the field, then appeared to use that very bat against Texas. The Angels and Rangers were tied 1-1 in the sixth inning when Trout led off with a home run against Lance Lynn, then two innings later against reliever Jesse Chavez, Trout provided insurance with another solo shot.
That gave Trout three home runs on the season and the 243rd of his career.
The Angels won this game, 3-1 but Trout was just getting started. Trout also hit a grand slam on Saturday, and homered again on Sunday, giving him five home runs in the four-game series. Trout is the the first American League player to hit five home runs in the first four home games of the season.
Trout hit an incredible 11 homers in 18 games against the Rangers in 2019, hitting .318/.477/.879.
