Welcome back to the Mike Trout home run daily, where we relive all the home runs hit by Mike Trout in his career, one game at a time. We use a random number generator to determine each game.
Today’s contest was August 6, 2016, the middle game of a weekend series against the Mariners, a Saturday night in Seattle. After a double and a walk to open the top of the first, Trout took Taijuan Walker deep for a quick 3-0 lead, a home run off the scoreboard in left center field.
This was Trout’s 21st home run of the season, and 160th of his career.
He also tripled in the third inning, driving in his fourth run. The Angels built a 6-2 lead in this one, but the bullpen could not hold it in an 8-6 Mariners win.
Trout had his way with the Mariners at Safeco Field in 2016, with five homers in nine games, hitting .364/.475/.970 with 13 RBI and 12 runs scored.
In his career, Trout is 9-for-14 (.643) against Walker with three home runs and a triple. It’s Trout’s highest batting average against any pitcher he’s faced at least 15 times, and his 2.095 OPS against Walker trails only James Shields (2.181).
