It looks like there’s a strong possibility we can see Reid Detmers later in the season for the Angels. Detmers was selected by LA with the 10th overall pick in 2020’s MLB Draft.

“I believe he’ll be very helpful to us this year at some point,” Maddon said. “He carries himself in a way beyond his years.”

Detmers, 21, is one of the youngest players that received an invite to Spring Training. Due to the shortened season last year, we didn’t get a chance to see him pitch in the minor leagues. The last time we saw him throw was four brief games for Louisville in 2020. It was a great sample size though, as he went 3-0 with a 1.23 ERA with 48 strikeouts in 22 innings.

“He’s really mature,” Maddon said. “Very much under control. He’s one of those guys that show up young, but really believe they belong here. I think he’s one of those guys that doesn’t have to fight hard to get through the survival stage. He believes he belongs here. already.”
