For the first time this spring, Max Stassi will be behind the plate at catcher. He’s appeared in only two games so far, but was the designated hitter for both games. A hip injury has prevented him from playing defense so far through the first two weeks, but he’s finally healthy and ready to play.
Through the two games he played, Stassi went 1-for-5 at the plate.
He appeared in 31 of the Angels’ 60 games last season and started 26 of them. He’s not going to be LA’s every day catcher in 2021, but he’ll likely see a bulk of the action. The Angels also have Kurt Suzuki and Anthony Bemboom as catchers on the 40-man roster.
