Jared Walsh started off his 2021 season exactly how he left off in 2020: red hot with the bat. The Los Angeles Angels slugger slammed two home runs on Sunday night, including a three-run walk-off shot to beat the White Sox.
But it was the Sunday night walk-off home run that we’re commemorating here. Inspired by Matt Vasgersian’s call of the homer on ESPN, you can rep the Angels with a “He went to Jared” shirt with Walsh on the cover, thanks to our friends at BreakingT.
Walsh entered Tuesday having driven in runs in three straight games, going 5-for-13 (.385) with a triple to go with those two homers and a team-best seven runs batted in. Walsh even started in right field on Tuesday, after his first three starts came at first base.
The hot start continued what he was doing last September, when he hit nine home runs after a call up from the alternate training site at Long Beach State. That hot month earned Walsh the American League Rookie of the Month for September, but his numbers stack up against anyone in the game since then, not just first-year players.
Walsh entered Tuesday with 11 home runs and 33 RBI since September 4, 2020, both totals the most in MLB during that time. That seems worthy of a T-shirt, don’t you think?
