Anthony Rendon was placed on the 10-day injured list earlier this week with a left knee contusion. He fouled a ball off his left knee and immediately went down in pain.

Angels manager provided an update with Rendon, saying he’s progressing nicely and that we could potentially see him soon.

“He’s moving a lot better,” Maddon said. “He’s able to kick his foot out without any issue. He’s eligible to return in Boston. I don’t think that’s out of the question but we’ll see how the week progresses.”

The Angels will be in Boston next weekend, which is when Rendon will be eligible to return. We saw it with Rendon’s first IL stint, but the Angels have no problem being extra cautious while awaiting his return.

Angels news

  • Tony Watson is eligible to return tomorrow. Maddon isn’t certain yet if he’ll be activated, but he said Watson is close.
  • Chris Rodriguez’s test results came back clean. Maddon said his time on the IL will be minimal.
  • Patrick Sandoval has been great out of the bullpen so far, but there’s no discussion of him joining the starting rotation any time soon.
  • Maddon likes having flexibility in right field as opposed to an every day player out there.
