There were a lot of changes to the 26-man roster

As if the Albert Pujols roster move wasn’t enough to take in, the Angels did plenty more a couple of hours later.

The Angels placed right-handed reliever Chris Rodriguez on the 10-day injured list with right shoulder inflammation. According to manager Joe Maddon, it doesn’t look to be a lengthy injury and the club is hopeful he’ll be able to return once the 10 days are up. Rodriguez has been great for LA this season, posting a 2.30 ERA in eight games. He’s only appeared in one outing since April 29.

Max Stassi was also placed on the IL, but this one being the concussion IL, which is only seven days. He last played on May 4, meaning he’s eligible to return on May 11.

Speaking of IL, the club reinstated right-handed pitcher Félix Peña. The reliever has been dealing with a hamstring injury all season, so this will be his first shot with the club in 2021.

The final two moves made by the Angels were selecting the contracts of outfielder Jon Jay and catcher Jack Kruger. For right now, Jay replaced Pujols’ spot on the roster and adds an extra outfielder to the team with Jared Walsh moving to first base. Kruger will get reps behind the plate until Stassi returns.
