What would you do?

First, I stumbled onto this site about a week ago because I have been looking for a site with informed angel fans.  I have really enjoyed reading all of your comments so I signed up. This is my first post and like someone said, I love talkin and thinkin about the angels and so I thought this might be an interesting topic.

If you were the GM what move would you make.

First I have read that Arizona is talking about moving Troy Glaus because of his high salary.  My first move would be to try to trade Steve Finley and his one year high salary to Arizona for Troy Glaus and his three year high salary (The angels would probably have to sweeten the deal with a prospect or two but I would not have to be an impact prospect.)  Finley might accept that trade since he had good things to say about Arizona and Arizona may like it because they will be free of Glaus's/Finley's contract in a year.

The angels could plug him into third base and put dallas at DH/3rd base for this season with the thoughts of possibly moving him to 1st during the 2nd and third year of his contract.  We lost a patient, clutch, and feared powerhitter when Glaus was allowed to leave.  If he moves to first eventually, then erstad can move back to center.  I like erstad in center first because he is a gold glove center fielder and because I do not like Garrett in center.  I am not a critic of Garrett because you take the positives with the negatives and garrett has brought the angel team countless positives.  You play to a players strengths and running down balls in center is not garrett's stregth.

In conclusion, you would have a big bat protecting vladdy who is a team player and will have good chemistry in the clubhouse.  You would have depth at 3rd base.

Oh HELL NO
I don't want Glaus.  So many people complained when he was not resigned with the Angels last offseason, but he was pretty useless for the Diamondbacks this year, since he got hurt AGAIN.

Who says he'll be at full health by spring?  Who says he WANTS to come back here?  Why should we pay him some EXORBITANT amount of money to come here when we didn't want to pay that LAST year, let alone pay it now AND give up prospects???

Don't see it happening.

Glaus
I would disagree that he was useless last year.

He hit .258 with 37 HRs and 97RBI (Both HRs and RBI led the team last year for Arizona)

He missed a total of 13 games in a 162 game season.  And his 2005 salary is $9.

I do agree that most likely he will get dinged up this year and that is why we have the depth at third with dallas, chone, and izturis.

I also do agree that he may not want to come back since the angels allowed him to leave last year.  But the thought of returning to his hometown,  playing for a contender, and he had a lot of friends on the team may allow him to accept a trade.

Finally, I would not give up any valuable prospects.  I would not touch Mathis, Wood, Kendry, etc.  When I say a prospect or two, I am talking about the ones you see all the time who play in the minors who never make it to the big league roster or if they do it is in a very limited capacity.  A couple of prospects just makes the deal look good from Arizona's perspective.  I would not make the trade straight up Finly for Glaus if I was Arizona. Glaus was the team leader in HRs and RBI and what did Finley do?  You have to sweeten the deal a little.

We DO need a righthanded bat
I was shcoked Glaus made it thru the season as he did, and he is a Righty bat with pop. There might be too much animosity between him and the club to make this feasible.

If it is between middling prosepcts and a Finley dump for Glaus or above average prospects and a Fin-dump for Manny Ramirez, I would take Manny over Troy any day of the week.

I'm torn on this one...
Glaus advantages over Manny - cheaper, can play a position where we need help, younger, not a spaz, wouldn't have to give up as much.

Manny advantages over Glaus - better hitter, less health risk/haven't heard issues about him not keeping in shape, doesn't have 'Angel baggage'- if you will.

glaus is fragile, and manny is a better hitter

I want
A healthy Glaus, to say "Bye" to Finley, a mashin' McPherson, and no prospects lost. (Oh, and welcome to our Angel blog.)
Nolan Ryan for president!
