Him signing with another team might force Stoneman to reconsider signing Paul Konerko and spend money on pitching instead.

If Byrd doesn't return to the Angels, who will we replace him with? Will we give one of our hot-shot minor leaguers a chance or will we overpay for a mediocre starter on this terrible FA market?

Buster Olney reports in his ESPN blog today (12/01/05) that Byrd's price is rising and that it may now take a 3-year deal for $20 million + to sign him. Perhaps Bill Stoneman should have acted quicker.

Should the Angels give him 3 years for 20. I have a feeling Stoneman will be smart here offering him 2 years around 13 million, with maybe a club option for a 3rd and saying take it or leave it. He'll be an Angel next year.
