Red Sox say Manny WILL be traded!
On ESPN News, Peter Gammons has reported that the Red Sox have told Manny's agent that Manny WILL BE TRADED THIS OFFSEASON. Gammons said that the Angels are still likely the best fit.
I'm calling it now. Manny will be an Angel by next week.

I'm not exactly a regular here
But I've been following the Manny-Angels rumors for good reason. All the prognosticating done on this site seems like it's part of the dance. Despite the report by NPCody, the Boston Globe is reporting (today) that Manny won't be traded.
The Sox asked for Cabrera as part of the package they were seeking in exchange for Ramirez, but a source with direct knowledge of the Angels' thinking said Tuesday night that he did not expect the Angels to make a deal for the Red Sox slugger. ''It's not happening,'' the source said.

Lesson learned: don't trust any of the media sources that say yea or nay.

The Boston Globe
And of all the sources they cited, not one was named.
But the Cabrera request sounds like GREAT news. Cabrera, Finley, Steve Shell and Troy Glaus (who we get from Arizona for Donnelly and two B-level prospects) to Boston for Manny. Saves us 17 million in '06, and 10 million in '07 and '08, meaning Manny costs us 10 million per season and 16 million of that is deferred for after 2010.

if they want cabfare...
with the news that atlanta is trying to swing a deal to get Renteria out of boston, the mention of cabrera to boston doesn't seem astronomically far-fetched.
but, i don't really see it happening...

Wow...
The Royals, according to a source, offered Sweeney to the Angels and asked for first-base prospect Casey Kotchman and minor league shortstop Brandon Wood, the team's top power-hitting prospect.

He won't be an Angel
With that said, I hope you're right and I'm wrong. But, the Red Sox won't just give him away, and all this speculation about him sitting in spring training, contract being voided, etc...is just talk. He will show up and play. He's a kook, but he's not T.O.
I'm just glad he won't be in Texas...the Soriano/Manny rumors had me a little concerned.
