Angels 1 Athletics 5
Welp, so that happened. With a season-opening series win on the line, the Angels and Tyler Skaggs came up way, way short.
It really came down to an ugly third, in which the Athletics scored four and jacked up Skaggs pitch count, in yet another outing where the Halos' starter can't go anywhere near late innings. Skaggs pitched 5.1 and gave up five earned runs on five hits.
The Angels had the same amount of hits but not the runs to match, on a day where Trout went 0-3 and had a weird error in the outfield. It was one of those games. It was also a game where Cliff Pennington started, so there's that. Albert Pujols was hitless buy still got the Angels' only run on the board.
I guess a bright spot would be that the bullpen, specifically Yusmeiro Petit and Blake Parker, combined for 2.2 scoreless innings. Yay.
One bad inning. I'll chalk it up to that for Skaggs' excuse. It happens. The Angels are now 2-2 and head back to the big A for their home opener tomorrow.
