TuesdoLinks: Well that just tears it...

Mike Trout not only hits the DL, but hits the operating table. And that means he won't get another hit in uniform until August.

So the X-rays on Mike Trout's thumb Sunday came back negative. But the later MRI checks found a torn ligament. At this point we hear that surgery is happening. That would put his return at early August, so we're talking about 50 - 60 games still to play. It would still take a few weeks to heat back up, but he would likely end up in the neighborhood of 400 Plate Appearances on the season. Not enough to qualify for anything. It's like hitting 4 grand slams in one game before having the game erased as a rainout in the 4th inning.

All because Mike Trout, LAA power outfielder hot as a pistol, did this. Because he did not learn the lesson of what happens when an LAA power outfielder hot as a pistol, does this.

So go ahead, Mr. High Heat Stats twitter jackanape. Roll us with your weak-ass attempt at a joke. But just watch how boring the season is going to become without the torrent of articles reeling in amazement about what Mike Trout had been doing on the playing field. Let's see how much traffic you draw praising Miguel Sano.

A Little Bit of Angels News

Ricky Nolasco, I need to ask you...what the hell was THAT? Six runs scored?? SIX? Oh, wait, yeah. It should have been two runs scored and out of the inning, but there we had Cliff Pennington playing third base. But, still, your reputation is as an innings eater. Eight outs does not qualify. And you are on a real crappy run for weeks now. You need to know NOT to pitch to ground balls to Cliff Pennington. You stay in the game, protect the bullpen, take a 3-2 lead into the 8th, everybody wins, and everybody is happy. Well, everybody not paying attention to Mike Trout. Instead we lose 6-3 to yet another "worst team in baseball". So look, Nolasco, I am not going to blame you for half the roster being on Injured reserve, but you still have to eat those innings and you still have decent defense at catcher, shortstop and right field. It's still possible to not get embarrassed............

Eric Young Jr. got into the lineup last night NOT via Mike Trout, but via Tyler Skaggs being moved to the 60-day DL. I am tempted to make snarky comments about Skaggs being a one-hit wonder, but he's still only the same age as Trout..........

Everywhere In Baseball

Mike Trout being lost for a long time was only the #2 news in Baseball yesterday. Bryce Harper topped that, because Bryce Harper was throwing punches.............Twitter took over from there. First we get a lot of dissing of Harper and others involved............But then we get really warmed up, and go after Harper and his silly helmet throw............While we are here, Harper and Strickland have a history............And before we move along, have some look back at the most infamous brawls in recent times. (This article is from a year ago, but was brought forth yesterday because of Harper.)..........

That didn't take long. Cubs fans win one WS, and suddenly they are so entitled to the next one that they shit all over themselves when their team fails to cake walk to the next one. Skipper Joe Maddon has had enough of 'em...........

The NCAA Baseball Tourney has been bracketed. Locally here in SoCal, we got Long Beach State, San Diego State. UCLA, Cal-State Fullerton. Who ya got?...........

At this time of crappy play and crappy outcomes, Mets manager Terry Colllins gets the full support of NYM ownership. Il bacio della morte................

It's not easy to get into a place like the Air Force Academy. And becoming a command officer where they sit you in a $150 million aircraft is even harder. That the Air Force tends to exact a  commitment from a cadet in exchange for that investment and opportunity is no secret to those who take the journey. So, yeah, for a Jacob DeVries it might seem like a hardship to forego a couple of years of a baseball career, but he comes from a military family. He knows the rules..............

If you ever get a chance to conduct a long interview with a pro hitter of pitched baseballs, things like hand position and swing mechanics will draw compelling insight that everybody else overlooks as they pursue cliches...........

Using baseball as the background to make a buck is not limited to MLB. And over the years it has made for some highly memorable breaks from the actual content people were tuned in to endure..........

The Duffle Bag

Vote for Tim Tebow as All-Star?..........Yasmany Tomas strikes out, AND takes the foul tip to his own nuts? Bad At-Bat. Bad, bad At-Bat...........This is a novel way to get into a baseball brawl. No, not talking about Harper again. But I love the sub-lede: "The minor leagues are where progress and innovation happen"...........God bless Brandon McCarthy for being an MLB'er to throw proper shade on MLB for turning Memorial Day into a merchandising extravaganza..........Home run off of the heads of TWO outfielders? It's as if Jose Canseco is playing with his twin...........Yes, indeed, folks. ESPN really, really does use it's editorial license to protect what they deem to be favored personalities..........

Jordan Serena Destiny Watch

J-Ser might be heating back up. He was 1 for 5 on Sunday as the 66'ers lost to Lancaster 7-6, and then went 2 for 4 last night as Lancaster rolled Inland Empire 11-7 last night. That's raised his BA back up 14 points..........

By the way, that's 4 losses in a row to Lancaster, 6 losses out of the last 8 games head-to-head. The Lancaster JetHawks are one of the minor league affiliates of the Rockies. There is a reason the Rockies are ranked so high with their farm system. The parent team already has the 2nd best record in all of MLB, and the best in the National League.  This difference is not just about a lack of first round picks. That difference is more about the shitty work done around those few missing choice selections, including backing out of the international market so long. Some huge amount of blame falls on Arte, and some huge amount of blame falls on Jerry Dipoto.  I write this as a guy who was a strong Dipoto defender.
