Fernando Salas is back - or how I learned to stop worrying and love baseball

September call-ups are here and Mike Scioscia’s favorite tool was the first to get a big league nod

Okay so I’ve always loved baseball. It’s not a new thing. But September is here and so is our old “friend” Fernando Salas. For some reason Billy Eppler gave Mike Scioscia his favorite toy back. I can only hope it was part of a bigger deal that Scioscia must separate Pujols and Trout in the lineup. In return - he gets Salas. This had to be the deal - right??

Salas got progressively worse in his 3 years as an Angels yet Scioscia kept parading him out in key situations. in 2016 he blew 5 of his 11 save opportunities and logged 6 losses as well. Those numbers and a 4.47 ERA do not exactly scream great reliever. Yet here is is - back on the big league roster. I mean, a .342 BAA agains in the second half of 2017 is not that bad, right??? How about a -0.9 WAR on the season or a 6.00 ERA? I guess we can overlook all those because Charles Nagy will fix him. Right??

And now I say - so what! Okay, maybe I’m a little worried but I’m holding out hope that Salas only gets paraded out in games where we are down by 10 runs in the 7th inning. Too much to ask? Maybe. Well then, I’m holding out hope that other - better relievers are on the horizon. Mike Morin? At least he’s better than Salas. Eduardo Parades? He’s definitely better than that Salas dude. Not to mention, the Angels already have a solid pen - Salas aside.

And hey! It’s September and the Angels are in the hunt for the post season. Billy Eppler upgraded at second base and made a huge upgrade in left field. September is going to damn fun and I suggest you just sit back, enjoy the ride and learn to love Salas, I mean the fbomb, I mean baseball before it’s gone (for the year).

October 3rd or bust!!
