Welcome to the “Madison Trash Pandas”???

The Angels AA affiliate is moving in 2020 and they will have a new name

I’m rather fond of the Mobile BayBears and their cute little logo:

But the team is moving further North for the 2020 season to Madison, which is near Huntsville Alabama. You can’t really call yourself the BayBears when you live nowhere near a bay.

So, the team conducted a contest and came up 10 finalists for the new team name. Apparently they didn’t learn from San Diego who conducted a contest for a new soccer team and ended up with this.

Here are the finalists:

Army Ants - apparently the new stadium is near a 40,000 person army base..

Comet Jockeys - Huntsville has the nickname of Rocket City

GloWorms - tiny bioluminescent creatures that call the caves at Dismals Canyon in North Alabama. Um... okay.

Lunartics - I guess there are a lot of “mad scientists” in the area. Not sure you want to celebrate that unless he drives a DeLorean.

Moon Possums - This is not a space reference but apparently just a reference to Possums who scavange at night. Sure.

Puffy Head Bird Legs - This IS a space reference and refers to the body fluids moving from feet to head from lack of gravity in space. What would that logo look like? Ewwww.

Space Chimps - Kind of fun and a refence to the first monkey in space. Great logo potential.

Space Sloths - A reference to the Marshall Space Flight Center. I guess it makes sense if you are a local.

ThunderSharks - Alabama gets storms and a shark is ferocious. I guess that’s it. Might be misleading since they are no longer near the ocean.

Trash Pandas - This is a nickname for a raccoon.
