Griffin Canning leads Angels to victory in strong start

Nothing much to see here, just a scoreless starting pitching outing, move along.

Tigers 1 Angels 6

Griffin Canning stepped onto the mound at Angel Stadium tonight and largely cruised through Tigers hitters at the plate. In six innings of work, Canning allowed no earned runs and just four hits to pair with seven strikeouts.

In the bottom of the second inning, Matt Thaiss homered for the fourth time in five games, and the Angels never looked back (and thankfully so, after last night). Thaiss now has a .550 SLG and a 120 wRC+. Not too shabby considering his initial struggles.

The Tigers helped out the Angels with this gift later on in the ballgame that all but iced it.

In a strong offensive night, the Angels had five starters with multiple hits, with their 6-7-8 hitters going 6-for-12 on the evening.

Tigers starter Drew VerHagen gave up 10 hits and recorded 10 outs, which is not so good of a ratio. He lowered his ERA to 11.66.
