September 1st Game #138 Preview: Red Sox @ Angels

Bye Bye Sox

MLB: Boston Red Sox at Los Angeles Angels Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

Red Sox (73-63) @ Angels (65-72)

The Angels say hello to September by saying good bye to the Red Sox for 2019. Rolling into September, the Angels are on pace for their 5th sub .500 season since 2013 and 2nd worst overall season in that span. Remember when the Angels were good? Losing is getting really draining, but at least I feel good about the matchup in this series finale. Only 25 more games left in this season. Is it Spring Training yet??

GAME 3

(L) Andrew Heaney (3.95 ERA) v. (L) David Price (4.36 ERA)
Sunday, Sep 1 @ 1:07PM

Summary:

While you weren’t looking, Andrew Heaney turned around his season into some pretty solid numbers. After a rough June, Heaney has logged a solid 34 innings over 7 starts with 44 Ks and a 2.38 ERA. Included in that is a 3.2 inning 3-hit and 1 run outing against the Red Sox at Fenway back on August 10th.

According to FiveThirtyEight, David Price has the edge in this game, but his last 4 starts have been rough. Over those 17 innings, Price has allowed 20 runs, 7 homers, 30 hits, and sports a 10.59 ERA. Price hasn’t faced the Angels in 2019 but held them to just 2 runs over 11 innings last year.
