Luis Rengifo done for season with hamate fracture

not a surprise, but a bummer

I was waiting for this news all day. Not that I wanted to be right about the diagnosis, but I’d much rather hear a firm diagnosis than day to day, or he thinks he can play, etc. Rengifo isn’t the first player to fracture his hamate on a swing and he won’t be the last.

In case you are wondering what the hamate bone is:

If you are keeping track, here is the list of season ending injuries:

Luis Rengifo, fracture hamate bone
Mike Trout, Morton’s Neuroma
Shohei Ohtani, bipartite patella
Justin Upton, patella tendinitis
Max Stassi, oblique
Cam Bedrosian, forearm strain
Griffin Canning, elbow inflammation
Felix Pena, torn ACL
Tommy La Stella, tibia fracture
Zack Cozart, shoulder surgery

This team would have been lucky to have a .500 season with all of those guys healthy. Now they are headed for potentially a 90 loss season.
