The Angels made a number of roster moves on Friday.
The biggest piece of news was infielder José Iglesias being placed on the 10-day injured list with a left hamstring strain (retroactive to May 26). In the move, the Angels recalled catcher Anthony Bemboom from Triple-A Salt Lake.
This is a blow for the Angels, not only on offense but in the field as well. Iglesias has been great at plate in 2021, as he’s hitting .283. with 45 hits and four home runs. In addition to being a reliable option in the lineup, his defense has been fantastic.
Bemboom has appeared in six games for the Angels this season. He’s hitting .263 with an OPS of .563. In eight games in AAA he’s hitting .321 with an OPS just below 1.200 to go along with three home runs and nine runs driven in.
In another corresponding move, the Angels recalled left-handed pitcher José Suarez from Triple-A and optioned right-handed pitcher Aaron Slegers. Suarez last pitched for the Angels on May 20, striking out three in two innings. Meanwhile Slegers pitched last night, allowing four runs in only 1⁄3 of an inning.
