The first phase of voting is over, with the second phase beginning later today. Unlike in previous years, the leading vote-getters after the initial ballot won’t be the starters. Instead, the top three (top 9 for outfielders) advance to the next phase in which the starters will be decided.
The Angels have two players on the next ballot, Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani. Trout led all of the American League outfielders in votes with 2,084,542. He received the fourth most votes overall between both leagues and positions even though he’s missed lots of time with an injury.
The other Angels leader is Shohei Ohtani, who finished in first place on the DH ballot with 1,961,511 votes.
As mentioned earlier, voting begins today at 9 a.m. PT. Voting for this phase ends Thursday at 11 a.m. PT. To vote for Trout and Ohtani as starters, fans can submit one ballot every 24 hours at MLB.com or by searching “vote” along with a player’s name.
The All-Star starters will be announced on Thursday at 6 p.m. PT on ESPN. Pitchers and reserves will be revealed July 4 at 2:30 p.m. PT on ESPN. The All-Star Game is July 13 on FOX.
