Whoa. Where has this been all year?

Alex Cobb has shown glimpses of being the starter the Angels envisioned, but he hasn’t lived up to expectations so far in 2021. Well, he delivered on Saturday night. Cobb had by far his best outing of the season, as he went 7 23 innings for the Halos. He allowed only one run on four hits and had six strikeouts.

The Orioles scored a run in the third inning, but aside from that they didn’t do any damage off of Cobb. They recorded a hit off him with two outs in the eighth, which prevented him from going a complete eight innings. Still, Cobb was in cruise control all night and delivered one of the best starts from an Angels starter all season.

LA was able to jump on the board early in the game, putting up two runs in the first inning. After loading the bases to begin the game, Jared Walsh singled in the first run. Phil Gosselin brought in the second run with a forceout.

Juan Lagares brought in the third run of the game with a double in the second inning and Gosselin drove in the fourth LA run with a single in the fifth. That was all the offense the Angels needed thanks to Cobb’s great start.

The Angels could have had a lot more runs put on the board, but they struggled with runners on base. They were 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position and stranded 11 runners on base. Not ideal, but you’ll trade it for a win any day of the week.

The Angels have now won three in a row and five of their last six games. They are now 5.5 games back of the Wild Card.
