Yunel Escobar is a proud American

Yunel Escobar has been absent from Angels spring training for a couple days, as we noted here earlier in the week, but it was for a GREAT reason: taking his U.S. citizenship test. Well, now it’s all paid off.

Today, via Escobar’s Instagram account (which usually just has pictures showing off his buffness or his swaggy sartorial sensibility), we learn that he’s passed his citizenship test and he can now say, with utmost pride and elation, that he’s an American citizen. And that’s exactly what he does here:

Today is one of the proudest days of my life on my way to becoming a American citizen thanks to everybody that was there for me in making this honor come true. ( I love )

Way to go, Esky! Way to go. May we both serve on a jury together some day, or run into each other at a voting station, or better yet, and perhaps even more quintessentially American, maybe I’ll see you at the ballpark!

Seriously, though. This is super cool. I’ve got a lot of respect for Escobar, that process isn’t easy and those tests are dang hard (if I took it today, would I even pass?!). Now, hurry back to Tempe, Esky, and here’s to you having a great 2017 season.
