Cow Tipping: August 2nd Angels Minor League Report - Monster Marsh is back

New, 15 comments

The Pioneer League is proving to be of little challenge to Brandon Marsh

Affiliate Teams (from AAA to Rookie):

Note: I won't be showing the "duds" for the rookie leagues unless they are top prospects or top draft picks. A lot of the guys in the rookie leagues are young and adjusting to pro ball. Many of them never make it past rookie ball, and even the truly gifted ones can have bad weeks, months, etc.

* Player is in the top 10 on the Halos Heaven top prospects list

AZL Angels (2-1 second half)
(finished 2nd at 15-12 in first half)

Others:

Nonie Williams (SS, 19), is hitting .167 in his last 10 games and just .207 so far this year. he still holds a lot of promise, but his hitting just hasn’t come around yet in his second rookie season. He does only have 2 errors in 12 games at SS this year. In 2016 he made 19 errors in 28 games.

Jacob Pearson (OF, 19 - 3rd Round 2017) ,Is only hitting .192 in 20 games.

Griffin Canning (RHP, 21 - 2nd Round 2017), Has not yet played. The Angels will mostly just be working with Canning in bullpen sessions, etc. and he may not see any game action after throwing 119 innings already this year for UCLA.

Studs:

Brandon Marsh* (OF, 19), is back from his thumb injury and picked up right where he left off. Rookie ball seems to be no match for him as he is 6 for 15 in his 3 games back with 2 home runs, 3 walks, and 4 RBIs. He’s hitting a monstrous .467 with a .529 OBP in Orem. He’s hitting nearly 100 points higher than the Pioneer League batting leader who has a .378 AVG in 111 AB. Marsh only has 45 ABs so does not qualify for any leader boards.

[Moving down - July 7th] Jeyson Sanchez (1B, 23), he was struggling in A ball and since being sent down to the more hitter friendly Orem has a .426 AVG and .500 OBP along with 8 home runs in just 13 games.

Others:

Roberto Baldoquin (SS, 23), aren’t you a little old for a Bee? Baldoquin was having a so so year with a .253 AVG and he’s been on the DL since the end of June. This guy takes more trips to the DL than Scioscia does to Olive Garden for all you can eat breadsticks
