Luis Valbuena designated for assignment, flips bat accordingly

Angels fans rejoice in unison.

So there I was, laying in bed at 8:00 in the morning (10 my time) listening to Lazy Sunday and scrolling through Twitter on my phone when a handful of Tweets caught my eye.

I pressed Like on every single one, but the gist was the same across the board:

That’s right! The greatest news of our time has finally come to light: Deck McGuire was recalled!

In all seriousness, this Valbuena DFA is way, way, way late and should have happened in June at the very latest. I’m sure that the front office was hoping he would rebound as he did in 2017 to make a last minute push, but he did have a team option still available for 2019 and I’m positive that Eppler and Co. were just trying to see if he could be a viable piece next year. With the rise of David Fletcher, Taylor Ward, Luis Rengifo, and Matt Thaiss and a need for pitching help, one of the worst players in baseball this season is now officially expendable on a team that looks to be competitive.

The staff here at Halos Heaven, always thinking of the community, has petitioned the government to change August 5th (historically National Underwear Day) to National DFA Luis Valbuena Day. Those who recognize the holiday will celebrate by flipping bats excitedly when we have no reason to and blocking playing time from more deserving candidates than themselves. It will be a smash hit—almost like the smash hits that Valbuena just wasn’t providing this year.

Thanks for the effort you put into 2017 and for being such a good buddy to Ohtani.

Adiós, y buena suerte.
