The right-hander pitched 4⅓ last Tuesday against the Giants, then was optioned to the taxi squad on Thursday when Jose Suarez was called up. Others on the Angels taxi squad include pitchers Luke Bard and Kyle Keller, catcher Jose Briceño, and infielder Elliot Soto.
Neither Andrelton Simmons nor Jo Adell are in the starting lineup in the first game, but manager Joe Maddon said both will start in the second game, which will start somewhere between 30-45 minutes after Game 1 ends.
Notes
MLB postponed Wednesday’s game due to Hurricane Laura, so after Tuesday’s doubleheader the Angels will fly home and have two off days. The Angels and Astros will play a doubleheader at Angel Stadium in Anaheim on Saturday, Sept. 5, with the Angels the home team in the first game and the Astros the “home” team in the second game.
Astros rookie Brandon Bielak is starting the second game of the doubleheader, on only two days rest. He last pitched on Saturday, allowing seven runs, including four home runs while recording only four outs in San Diego. He threw 28 pitches.
