Dexter Fowler placed on Injured List

The Angels call up Jaime Barria

Early this morning, I had an update on Dexter Fowler, saying it looked as if he wouldn’t be going on the Injured List. Following the game, manager Joe Maddon said that he avoided a major injury and there was a chance he wouldn’t miss much time.

However, the club decided to place him on the 10-day IL on Saturday due to his knee sprain from Friday.

Instead of calling up another outfielder, the Angels have opted to call up right-handed pitcher, Jaime Barria. When speaking with reporters on Saturday, Maddon said the decision to add an additional arm to the bullpen was due to the unpredictable weather taking place over the next few days. With the chance for the games to be delayed, he wants to have as many arms available as possible.

With Fowler out and one less outfielder available, that leaves Juan Lagares as the only true outfielder on the team. Expect to see Jared Walsh and Jose Rojas also see some reps in right field as well while Fowler is out.

Shohei Ohtani update

While we still don’t have a date as to when we can see Ohtani on the mound next, it appears as if he’s getting closer. Maddon said that Ohtani could potentially throw a bullpen session on Monday when the team is in Kansas City. Maddon isn’t sure yet as to whether or not Ohtani will need to wear a bandage on the finger for when he throws.
