The Angels used an eighth-inning rally to come from behind and take down the White Sox, 5-3.
Entering the eighth, the Halos trailed 3-2. After a quick out to begin the inning, Anthony Rendon singled, representing the tying run on the bases. Jared Walsh then hit a triple, bringing in Rendon to tie the game while representing the go-ahead run on third. Justin Upton stepped up to the plate, looking to give the Angels the lead.
On a 1-0 count, Upton connected on a changeup and sent one into the Halos bullpen, giving LA the 5-3 lead.
After pitching in the eighth, Junior Guerra went back out there in the ninth to shut things down, throwing a scoreless ninth to give the Angels the victory.
Alex Cobb made his first start for the Angels and was excellent. After some down years in Baltimore, he was picked up this offseason to hopefully be a reliable starting pitcher in the Halos rotation. Granted, it’s only one start, but it was a very encouraging one.
He threw six innings and allowed three runs, so a quality start. He struck out seven and issued only one walk, keeping the Angels in the game.
