Instead of going big with a trade for Cesar Hernandez or Brandon Phillips, why not save the farm(if you dare call it that) and find a cheap rebound candidate.
Second/Third Base Options
Dustin Ackely
Cheap, versatile, lefty. Used to be a top prospect. 1 year, 2 million?
Chris Coghlan
Also lefty, versatile. Former NL ROY. If he doesn't work in the infield, quality fourth outfielder
Aaron Hill
He's played second, short, and third. He used to be Robinson Cano before Robinson Cano. Pop, versatilty. He's 34 but he's no one here is a long term answer.
Outfield Options:
Desmond Jennings
Former top prospect. He's got speed (31 SB in his first full season) and still young enough to produce.
Oswaldo Arcia
He's always looked good in the minor leagues. Why not give him a chance? Not much to him outside of pop, but it can't hurt since he's only 25
Peter Bourjos
Former Angel has speed and good contact skills. Sounds like the prototypical angel. He's lost his touch since being traded from the team but a reunion could favor both parties.
Pitching Options
Nathan Eovaldi
Yes he has TJ issues. But a back-loaded 2 year deal with incentives sounds right for the productive righty.
Jarrod Parker
He was actually really good in his first years until injury bit. He hasn't pitched in the MLB since 2013 when he was 13-8. I'll take that on the Angels.
Jacob Turner
I used to get him and Parker confused all the time, until I looked at his stats. Turner was a top prospect, too. But he hasn't had much sucess in the bigs. Minor league deal could be promising.
Kyle Drabek
Former top prospects are abundant this year. Drabek was supposed to be an ace level pitcher for the Blue Jays. Now he's a minor league free agent listed after trying out as a shortstop for the Giants. As a pitcher or infielder, Drabek could be interesting as a Halo.
Daniel Hudson
He was a top tier starter before converting to the bullpen. He's been effective with some heat. Hudson, Bailey, and Hudson could be a nice backend of the bullpen.
