Angels 2017 current payroll

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

It looks like the current payroll is $130.5M. With luxury tax set at $195M, the Angels have a ton of money to spend. So, why doesn't Eppler go sign the following:

- Tyson Ross $10M on 1 year deal or 2 years

- or Hammel for same

Then sign for bullpen:

- Holland for $8M

- or Blanton for $4M

Then sign Wood or Logan (Left handers) for about $6M

For a total of $20M - $24M taking total budget to $150M - $154M.

For rotation the team would protect against guys all coming back from injury, allow Meyer to develop another year, bridge gap until Heaney and Tropeano are healthy and allow Chavez to move to bullpen.

It would further strengthen the bullpen with another lefty, give us two proven relievers and moving Chavez would be boon to pen plus give team two guys in bullpen who could start if needed along with brining Meyer back up.

Makes a ton of sense to me plus gives the team additional trade bait at trade deadline to boost farm system.

With these moves and at deadline also trading Escobar and Cron to boost farm system. Those would allow Marte to start rest of season at 3B thus improving our def and pop and bring Thaiss up to play 1B.

All with additional goal of signing Donaldson after season to multi-year deal to solidify our infield which probably gives team best or 2nd best overall defense in MLB along with Cubs plus multiple guys with HR capabilities and lots of speed to help manufacturing runs.

Only weakness from 2018 on would be C from a hitting perspective though team has Ward as a potential fit and Maldonado or a different FA signing.

This makes so much sense to me, not sure why this hasnt happened yet or no rumors about this.

There are an additional 5 SP available now along with 3 other potential RP that could all contribute this year.
